This is the design I did for Legions of Dance’s next event Pin-up Affair 3. The event is October 15, 2011 and will take place at the Pittsburgh Eagle, 1740 Eckert Street in Pittsburgh, PA. The event features Terravita, Freaky Flow, DJ Venom, a surprise headliner, and a variety of local and regional talent.
I really enjoyed doing this design. I just got done watching the HBO miniseries ‘Mildred Pierce’ and had been listening to a lot of 30’s and 40’s big band music. When this design was given to me it was very apparent that I wanted to do a vintage style pin-up poster with some vintage-inspired fonts and colors. I really am pleased with how it turned out. I love the simplicity of vintage design and it’s refreshing that the promoter I did this job for appreciates it as much as I do!
If you have a chance to check out this event, I highly recommend doing so! As always, check out more info @ lolli.org.
Soooo…. this is the flyer I did for Sisters of Sinister’s event, Hey Teacher, Leave Those Kids Alone! The event is being held at the Lawrenceville Moose in Pittsburgh, PA on August 19, 2011. It costs just $15 and features Defunct! as well as a barrage of local supporting acts.
This was a really fun design to do. I’ve been finding that lately I’ve been getting “lost” in design more and more and really paying attention to the details, trying new things, learning new things, etc.. I know, it’s how I always should have been, but life is stressful and sometimes you just don’t have time to put into the things you love. (I know, it’s a good quote. You can use it. :P)
But yeah, I’m still on the “do what I like” kick, so hopefully all my upcoming designs will keep improving. 🙂 Oh and as always you can find more info at lolli.org!
This is the flyer I did for the upcoming Sinister Movement and B.A.D. Ass. event “Revolution” on Friday, April 22, 2011 at the Elks Lodge in Braddock (suburb of Pittsburgh), Pennsylvania. The event will begin with a free open discussion with topics ranging from politics and oil prices to the NWO and 2012. Talent for the evening will feature 45 Thieves, Ill Atmospherics, The Animal Crackers and What the Bleep supported by local acts Abduction vs Hooty, Tika, Eryn Evans, Kilo, Omen and Data C. The event is $20 and as always more info can be found at lolli.org.
This design was a cool one to do. The promoter provided photos taken from the controversial riots and protests surrounding the G-20 Summit that was held in Pittsburgh in September of 2009. The powerful photos were, in my opinion, the perfect background for an event titled “Revolution”.
This is the flyer I did for B.A.D.Ass. & Sisters of Sinister’s event, “FUNNK’D UP”. It features Le Funnk from Birmingham, UK. Supporting local talent are 7up, Dizzy & DVS, Omen, Eric Bliss, 40 oz. Casualties (Tika, Nick Fury, Barrenzemo), Colin Pierce vs Naoko, J-me vs. Eryn Evans, & Trackzploitation. The event will be at the Braddock Elk’s Lodge. More info can be found at lolli.org.
This is the flyer I did for 412 Approved’s Show Me Love 2. (Last year I had the chance to do the design for Show Me Love… found here.) I wanted to model this year’s design similar to last year’s. Of course I wanted to work with the fabulous Laurel Munshower again. We decided to do a witch concocting some love spells and potions and go with a deep red, black, and purple theme. I think it turned out pretty well.
Headlining the event are Vize and Mayhem. Supporting djs are Peterlee, Tika, Ryan Matthew, Ben Matrix, Sean Kramer, Bob Teagarden, Xero, RM, and Funkreformer.
The event takes place on October 16, 2010 at the Braddock Elk’s Lodge, Braddock, PA.
So, I love this design. I really really love it. Haha! I rarely create everything for a design, and this time I did. I created the blacklight-esque illustration on the front and then picked up the coloration throughout the entire piece. I definitely struggled with it, as I’m no illustrator. Originally I had tried to commission an art student to assist me with this design. We got through the initial brainstorming process and then she asked what the event was. I told her flat out… it’s a rave. I then explained to her that doing design for raves has been my entire freelance business for the past 3 years and that is has given me a lot of great opportunities as far as getting my work out there, doing what I love, making $$$ (hehe), etc. Apparently exposure and money weren’t enough for her! Crazy, huh? If I have learned NOTHING ELSE since I have graduated college it has been this… If you are going to picky in the world of Graphic Design… you’re going to be jobless. /rant. Anyhow, when she left me high and dry was when I figured I’d be fine on my own. 🙂
So this is a very trance/hardcore heavy party, which is awesome. I haven’t been to a trance party in a while (I’ll pass on the hardcore though, thank you very much). Tom Colontonio headlines this event, as well as No Left Turn and Ian K. Supporting djs are Tika (one of my very close friends), Doverspike, Eric Bliss, Omen, Eryn Evans, Joltz, Sean 2:16, Kevin King, Dougie & Sam, Fatt Kid, Skootz, Agent Smith & Zone, and Justin Beavers (not to be confused with Justin Bieber… however that would be quite awesome if Justin Bieber showed up at a rave.)
Anyhow, you can read more about the event at Lolli.org. It will definitely be a partAY you don’t want to miss! 🙂
B.A.D. Ass. presents Mars, the 4th installment of the planetary series. Saturday, October 3rd, 2009 in Akron, Ohio. As you can see this series is coming along nicely. I’ve gotten into a good pattern, and almost a groove whenever I’m working on these. I’m currently working on Jupiter, which will take place in November. That one we have a little bit larger and different layout, but it will still fit into the lineup.
Sunset til Sunrise presents How Strange. I love working for Tall… the Close Encounters of the 3d Kind flyer (shown below, keep scrolling…. yep thar it is!) was one of my favorite flyers I’ve done (if you look at it with 3-d glass, YES, it’s actually 3-d.. woooOoOoOoOo!). Anyhow, Tall wanted this flyer to be a collaboration of talents, just like his party. So he got one of his favorite local artists “Valentine” to put together the graphics you see in the background of the flyer, then he handed it over to me. I did the entire layout. This is the first collab piece I’ve done since college, and I have to say I’m pretty impressed with how it turned out. I’m looking forward to this event, for sure. Tall puts his heart and soul into these events, and you can tell when you get there, because they’re just incredible. This was a full page 11×8.5, 4/4, folded piece done in a quantity of 5000.
I apologize that all these are just thumbnails. When I get really spunky I plan on doing actual write ups for all of them, but when I put up the blog I was being lazy. Now half a year or so later I’m thinking that wasn’t the best idea. Anyways, here are earlier things I did… still not all the archived stuff but a good bit. Thanks guys!
